It may seem counterintuitive at first, but using club soda to blot stain is one of the best ways to start removing it. It acts as a neutralizer, so it helps break down the acidity of the wine and make the stain easier to remove. To blot the stain, gently dab a cloth in some club soda, then press it against stained area. Don’t rub, as this might only spread the stain.
Once you’ve blotted the stain with club soda, it’s time to put the fabric in cold water. Fill a basin with cold water, then submerge the stained fabric in it. This will help keep the stain from setting into the fabric more. Let it soak for up to 30 minutes.
Once the fabric has soaked in the cold water, gently rub a mild detergent into the stained area. Work the soap in and let it sit for a few minutes to give it some time to work its magic.
After pre-treating the stained area, it’s time to rinse the fabric with cold water. Make sure you do this with the fabric still submerged in the cold water basin. This will help remove any remaining traces of soap and the wine stain.
Vinegar is another excellent neutralizer, so soaking the stained fabric in a vinegar and water solution can help further break down stain. To do this, mix one part white vinegar with two parts cold water, then submerge the stained fabric in it. Let it soak for 30 minutes.
Next, you’ll need to rinse the fabric again. Do this with fabric still submerged in the vinegar and water solution. This will help remove any remaining vinegar and wine smell from the fabric.
The final step is washing the fabric in hot water. Use a mild detergent and washing cycle specifically designed for the type of fabric you’re dealing with. Once the washing is done, let the fabric air-dry.
