Step 1: Blot The Stain

The first step in cleaning a wine stain from your tuxedo is to blot the stained area with a paper towel or absorbent cloth. Gently press against the stain and dab the paper towel away.

Step 2: Treat The Stain with Vinegar

Once you've blotted as much of excess liquid as you can, mix together equal parts white vinegar and water and apply it to the stained area using a soft cloth. After applying the mixture, allow it to sit for several minutes before blotting the stain again.

Step 3: Pretreat the Stain with a Laundry Detergent

Next, pretreat the stain with a laundry detergent designed for tough stains. Allow the detergent to sit for at least 30 minutes before laundering the item in the hottest water temperature it can safely tolerate.

Step 4: Rinse the Stain

Finally, once the tuxedo has been washed, rinse stained area with cold water and inspect it for any remaining wine stains. If necessary, repeat steps 2 and 3 until the stain is gone. Then allow the garment to air dry.
