It’s not hard to imagine how easy it can be to spill a glass of red wine on your favorite trench coat. Though the situation may seem dire, there is hope! With the right supplies, you can remove even the toughest wine stains from your beloved trench coat. Here’s what you will need:
The first step is to blot up as much of the spilled wine as possible. Use a soft towel and press down gently but firmly on the stain. Do not rub the stain; this will only spread it further. You should repeat this process until you have blotted up as much of the liquid as you can.
Apply a small amount of hydrogen peroxide directly to the stain. The peroxide will break down stain and remove any residual color. Let the peroxide sit for about 10-15 minutes.
Next, spray white vinegar over the stain. This will help to further break down the stain and also add a pleasant scent to the fabric. Again, let this sit for 10-15 minutes.
Take a nylon brush and mix some dish soap with warm water. Dip the brush into the soapy water and gently scrub the stain in circular motions. Be sure not to use too much pressure; you want to be careful not to damage the fabric.
Once you have scrubbed the stain, soak the fabric in a sink with warm water for about 30 minutes. This will help to remove any residual product from fabric and the stain will become less visible.
Finally, use a clean, soft towel to dry the fabric. You should also hang the coat up to fully dry. And that’s it! Your coat should now look good as new.
