Step 1: Pre-treat the Stain

Before you start cleaning the stain, it is important to pre-treat it. To do this, take a clean cloth and dampen it with plain water. Use the cloth to dab the affected area gently. This will help to remove as much of the wine as possible. Be sure to not scrub or rub the cloth over the stained area as this could cause damage to the fabric.

Step 2: Apply a Cleaning Solution

Once you have pre-treated the stain, it’s time to apply a cleaning solution. Different types of fabric require different solutions, so be sure to check the care label on your traditional dress before proceeding. If fabric is cotton or linen, mix two teaspoons of white vinegar in two cups of warm water. Dip a clean cloth in the solution and press it against the stain. Allow the solution to sit for a few minutes then blot it with a dry cloth.

Step 3: Rinse and Dry

Finally, it’s important to rinse cleaning solution from the fabric. To do this, use cold water and a clean cloth. Rub gently until all of solution has been removed. You can then hang the traditional dress outside or near an open window to air dry.
