Before doing anything else, check the garment tag of your t-shirt for any specific instructions. Different fabrics have different care instructions, and if the instructions specify not using water on the fabric, then you will need to use a different method of stain removal. If instructions state that it is okay to use water, then proceed.
The sooner you can treat the stain, the better your chances of getting it out. If you don't have access to a sink right away, try to blot the wine with an absorbent paper towel or cloth. This will help draw out some of the liquid and keep it from setting further into the fabric.
Once you're able to get to a sink, fill it with cold water and add a small amount of mild detergent. Swish the water around until the detergent dissolves and submerge the soiled area of the shirt. Let it soak for about 5-10 minutes and then rinse with cold water. You may need to let the stain soak for longer if it is particularly stubborn.
If water and soap aren't cutting it, you can also try using a paste made of baking soda and white vinegar. Rub the paste into the stain, leave it for a few minutes, and then rinse the paste off with cold water. Repeat as necessary until stain is gone.
To prevent future spills, be sure to wear dark clothing and carry a napkin whenever you're enjoying a glass of wine. And if a spill does occur, don't panic—just use the tips above to help you get it out!
