Step One: Soak Up Excess Wine

The first step to removing red wine stains from your swim trunks is to use an absorbent material such as cloth or paper towels to soak up as much of the wine as possible. Do this immediately and as many times as necessary until no more liquid is coming off the trunks. For tougher stains, you may need to scrub at affected area gently with a brush.

Step Two: Pretreat with Liquid Detergent

Once all of the excess wine has been removed, you can start pretreatment process. This involves applying a small amount of liquid detergent directly to the stain and allowing it to sit for 5-10 minutes. The key with this step is to not use any type of bleach or fabric softener as they can damage the fabric of your trunks.

Step Three: Rinse and Check

After the pretreatment has had time to work its magic, it’s time to rinse the trunks with cold water. You may have to do this several times until the stain has lightened significantly. If stain is still visible, you can repeat steps one and two until it is completely gone.

Step Four: Treat with Stain Remover

If stain is still proving to be stubborn after the above steps, it’s time to break out the stain remover. Sprinkle a generous amount of the powder over the affected area and let it sit for at least 15 minutes. After this time, launder the trunks as you would normally. This should leave your trunks looking as good as new.
