Start by dabbing the stain with a clean cloth and soapy warm water. Don’t rub stain as this will only spread it further. Gently blot stained area until no more of the wine is absorbed onto the cloth.

Then, use a mixture of 1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid and 4 cups of cold water to soak sweater for 30 minutes. This will help to loosen the red wine stain further. When finished, take the sweater out of the mixture and put it in a colander. Gently press out the excess moisture and rinse off any remaining suds from the affected area.

Next, prepare a mixture of 2 cups of cold water, 1 tablespoon of white vinegar, and ¼ teaspoon of dishwashing liquid. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and gently blot the stain on the sweater. Be sure to pat it dry with a clean cloth after each application.

Finally, apply a stain remover spray to the stained area and dry it according to the instructions given. For stubborn stains, you may need to repeat these steps several times. Once the area is completely dry, take sweater outside in the fresh air and direct sunlight to help fade any remaining discoloration and ensure that all cleaning products are thoroughly removed.

With these simple steps, you can quickly and easily remove red wine stains from your favorite sweater. And the next time you have an accidental spill, you can rest assured knowing what to do to get those bothersome stains out!
