1. Blot the Stain

Use a white cotton cloth or paper towels to blot the wine stain. Use a firm pressure and don’t scrub the stain, otherwise it might spread. Instead start by blotting in one direction and then switch directions as needed. Doing this will help absorb the majority of the liquid.

2. Pre-treat the Stain

After blotting, use a pre-treatment designed for delicate fabrics like socks. If you don’t have any pre-treatment on hand, you can use an enzyme-based detergent mixed with cold water. Apply the cleaner to the stain, making sure to cover the entire area. Wait a few minutes for the pre-treatment to work before moving onto next step.

3. Rub Stain

Using a clean cloth, gently rub the stained area. Move the cloth in a circular motion as you rub to help lift the stain from the fabric. Don’t rub too hard or you may damage the material.

4. Rinse

Rinse the sock in cold water to help remove any leftover cleaner and wine stain residue. Don’t use hot water as this could set the stain.

5. Wash

Now, wash sock with a delicate detergent in cold water. It’s important to use a detergent specifically labeled for delicate materials to ensure that it won’t damage or discolor the sock.

6. Dry

Air dry the sock on a flat surface. Avoid machine drying as this can cause the stain to set.

7. Repeat if Necessary

If the stain is still visible after following the above steps, repeat the process until stain is completely removed.
