Wine stains are one of the most common and tough blemishes to remove from clothing. All too often, people give up trying to restore their favorite items to their original color and replace them instead. But with a few simple steps, wine stains can be removed from Skechers sneakers with ease.

Step 1: Absorb Excess Wine

The key to removing a wine stain is to start as soon as possible after spill occurs. Immediately take a paper or cloth towel, or even a piece of napkin, to absorb some of the liquid. Gently dab excess without pressing down too hard, and keep dabbing until there is no more liquid coming out of shoe.

Step 2: Try a Non-Chlorine Bleach Solution

Try using a solution of non-chlorine bleach and water (four parts water to one part bleach) and dab it onto the stain with a cloth. Be sure to rinse away any remaining solution with cold water and test a small, hidden area of the shoe to make sure that the material won’t be harmed by the bleach. Afterward, blot the area dry.

Step 3: Use Ammonia

For tougher stains, try adding a few drops of mild household ammonia to lukewarm water and dip corner of the cloth in the liquid. Rub cloth gently over the stain in circular motions. Continue to dab away the solution with a slightly damp cloth until all the ammonia has been absorbed. Rinse and then dry shoe once you are finished.

Step 4: Rub with Salt

An old but still effective method is to make a paste of salt and white vinegar and rub mixture into the stain. Leave the paste on the shoe for a few hours, then rinse the area with cold water and let the Skechers air-dry. This should work especially well on a smaller wine stain that hasn’t soaked through too deeply.

Step 5: Dry Clean with Silicon.

If none of the above methods worked, it’s time to take the shoes to a dry cleaner. The dry cleaner will use a special solvent such as silicone-based dry cleaning fluid to remove stain. Be sure to tell the dry cleaner that the shoes are made of fabric so that the solvent does not damage the material.

Follow these five easy steps and you’ll have spotless Skechers in no time!
