The first step to ridding your silk satin of wine is to blot up as much of the stained liquid as possible. This can be done with a dry cloth or paper towels. Press firmly but gently on stain to soak up as much of the wine as possible without pushing it further into the fabric.
After blotting up as much of wine as possible, apply an enzyme-based detergent directly onto the stain. Let the detergent sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing with cold water.
To help lift the stain further, fill a sink or tub with cold water and add a few tablespoons of white vinegar. Then, carefully submerge garment into the solution and let it soak for 30 minutes. The white vinegar will help neutralize the stain and make it easier to remove.
Once the garment has soaked for at least 30 minutes, rinse it off in cold water and check for any remaining stains. If any traces of the stain remain, repeat steps 2 and 3 until stain has been completely removed.
Once the stain has been removed, launder the garment as usual according to the manufacturer’s instructions. It may be best to skip the dryer and air dry your silk satin garment instead, as the heat may cause fabric to shrink or lose its shape.
Once your silk satin garment has been laundered and dried, you can finally enjoy it free of any tell-tale wine stains. You’ll be glad you took the extra steps to remove stain and preserve the beauty of your garment.
