The faster you act on a wine stain, the better your chances of success. Start by blotting excess liquid with a paper towel, and then use a damp white cloth to further absorb the wine. Don't rub too hard, as this can damage the delicate silk.
You can use either a simple home remedy or a specialized cleaning product to remove the stain. For the former approach, mix one tablespoon of dishwashing soap and one tablespoon of white vinegar in a quart of warm water. To use a commercial cleaner, follow the product instructions.
Using a spray bottle or a damp white cloth, apply your chosen solution to stained area, working from the outside edge to the middle so you don't spread the stain. Let it set for a few minutes, then rinse with cold water. Repeat as needed until the stain fades or is gone.
Check the care label on your silk charmeuse item to see if it's safe to machine dry. If not, hang it over a line or shower rod and let it air dry.
