The first thing you should do when attempting to remove a wine stain from shearling is to blot the stain with a clean white cloth or paper towels to absorb as much of liquid as possible. Once you’ve blotted most of the wine off the fabric, move on to the next step.
In a bowl, mix together equal parts of vinegar, water and detergent. Dip a sponge into the mixture and lightly dab it onto stained area. Do not rub stain as this may spread it further. Leave the mixture to penetrate the fabric for about 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes, rinse the stain with cold water and wash the shearling according to the instructions. Allow it to air dry, avoiding the use of direct heat, such as a hair dryer, as this could cause the shearling to shrink.
Removing a red wine stain from shearling is not as difficult as it may seem. Just follow these three simple steps and you’ll be able to keep your favorite coat stain-free and looking its best.
