The first step for getting rid of a wine stain on a scarf is to blot up as much of the liquid as possible with a paper towel or cloth. Once the surface liquid has been blotted away, use a mild detergent mixed with water to create a sudsy solution.
If you happen to have some white wine handy, you can use it to dissolve the stain as long as you act quickly. Simply pour or spray some white wine directly onto the stain and blot away the excess with a clean cloth. Once all of the excess is gone, rinse the spot with water then wash the item as normal. It is important to only use white wine to remove a red wine stain to avoid setting the stain.
White vinegar can also help remove a wine stain from a scarf by breaking down the tannin in the stain. To use this method, mix one part vinegar with two parts warm water and apply the mixture directly to stained area. Work the solution into the fabric using a soft brush, then rinse the spot with cold water and launder as normal.
If these methods do not work you can try treating the stain with a specifically designed stain remover or a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution. Be sure to follow the directions on the product label carefully and test it in an inconspicuous area first. If the scarves are made of delicate fabrics, hand washing may be the best option for eliminating the stain.
