First, absorb as much of the spilled liquid as possible with a clean cloth or paper towel. Be sure to avoid rubbing the stain into the sandal, as this will only make it harder to remove.
Mix one part white vinegar and three parts cold water in a bowl. Dunk the stained area of the sandal in the mixture and allow it to sit for 15-20 minutes. The acidic properties of the vinegar will help to loosen up the stubborn wine stain from the material.
Once the stain has soaked for a few minutes, use an old toothbrush or similar brush to scrub away remaining bits of the stain. Take care to apply only light pressure, as sandal material is usually delicate.
Rinse the stained area with cold water until most of the vinegar wash has been removed. Don’t worry if some of stain remains; you’ll be able to tackle that in the next step.
Using a stain remover like Zout or Shout, pretreat the sandal before washing it. Let the product soak on the stain for a few minutes before tossing the sandals in the washer. After washing them in cold water, hang them up to dry naturally — no heat!
