Before you do anything else, remove the excess wine with a damp paper towel. If necessary, use a brush or a blunt knife to remove any solids that may be stuck to the fabric. While leather Oxfords can be wiped clean with a damp cloth and dried with a dry cloth, suede must be treated differently.
To tackle a wine stain in suede Oxfords, use cornmeal. Gently sprinkle the stained area with cornmeal and let it sit overnight. The next day, shake off the cornmeal and use a hairbrush or suede brush to remove stain. If there is still a slight discoloration, apply a small amount of white vinegar to the area with a cotton swab. Use a dry cloth to wipe away the vinegar and buff the area for a final touch-up.
Keep in mind that if the stain does not come out immediately, do not attempt to scrub or rub vigorously. This could cause permanent damage to your Oxfords. Never put your Oxfords in a washing machine as this could ruin them beyond repair.
When it comes to stains, quick action is best remedy. With a few simple steps, you'll have your Oxfords looking good as new and you'll be ready to face the world again - stain-free!
