The first step to removing any stain is to blot it with a cloth and cold water. As soon as possible, take a clean cloth and dab it on the wine stain to absorb as much of the liquid as possible.
Once you’ve blotted the wine stain, mix one tablespoon of detergent with two cups of cold water and apply the solution to stain. Let the solution sit for about 15 minutes before rinsing it off.
Next, fill a large bowl or sink with cool water and add a capful of detergent. Submerge shirt in the solution, and let it sit for 30 minutes. Every 5 minutes, agitate the water to help loosen the stain.
After soaking shirt, it’s time to launder as usual. Put the shirt in washer with the appropriate amount of detergent and lukewarm water. Check the stain after the spin cycle to see if it’s still there. If it is, repeat the washing process.
If, after laundering your shirt, the stain still hasn’t completely come out, you may want to try repeating the steps outlined above until it disappears. Remember that the sooner you treat a stain, the better your chances of success.
