The key to successful stain removal is to act quickly. Immediately place a paper towel or white cloth over the stained area and dab gently in order to remove as much of the excess liquid as possible. Do not rub the stain because that will only spread it further.
Next, soak the stained area with a solution of one part white vinegar and one part water. Make sure to saturate the area well. Once the fabric is damp, sprinkle some salt, baking soda or cornstarch onto the stain and let it sit for about 15 minutes.
Now it’s time to scrub stain. Use a soft-bristled brush or a sponge to work the vinegar/water mixture into the fabric in a circular motion, being careful not to rub the fabric too hard. Rinse the outerwear with cold water and repeat the process until the stain is completely gone.
If the stain still isn’t budging, it’s time to go to the laundry room. Pre-treat the garment with a pre-wash stain remover (like Zout Triple Enzyme Formula Stain Remover ) and then launder as usual using cold water. Hang to dry.
It’s also important to keep in mind that most outerwear garments are not suitable for regular dry cleaning. However, if your outerwear is made of a delicate fabric like velvet or suede, it’s best to take it to a professional.
Although removing a wine stain from outerwear can be tricky, it can definitely be done! Just remember to act fast, use right products, and you’ll be ready to face any wine-related stains that come your way.
