Organza is a thin, delicate fabric that is often used to make glamorous evening gowns or wedding dresses. However, its sheer, lightweight construction can also leave it vulnerable to staining. If your organza piece has been sullied by a red wine spill, all is not lost! You can rescue it with these simple cleaning steps.

What You’ll Need:

  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Water
  • Dish soap
  • Enzyme detergent

Step One: Blot

As soon as possible after the stain has occurred, take a clean cloth or paper towel and dab gently at the stained area. Do not rub material, as this could cause stain to spread and/or penetrate deeper into the fabric fibers.

Step Two: Pre-treat

Mix a solution of one part white vinegar to four parts water. Spray or dab it onto the stained area, being careful not to soak the garment. Allow the solution to sit for ten minutes or so before moving on to the next step.

Step Three: Wash

Create a paste from equal parts baking soda and water. Rub it over the stained area, then follow up with a light scrub using an enzyme detergent and water. Finally, rinse the garment in cool water and allow it to air dry.

Step Four: Spot Clean

If the stain persists, you may need to spot clean. Mix a solution of one tablespoon of dish soap and two cups of warm water. Dab it onto the stain, then allow the clothing to air dry. Be sure to dab, not scrub.
