Wine stains on your shoes are definitely an unwelcome sight. Not only are they ugly, but they can also be difficult to get rid of. Luckily, if your New Balance sneakers have been splattered with wine, all is not lost. Follow these easy steps to get your shoes sparkling clean again in no time:
Immediately take a damp cloth and blot the stain, trying to absorb as much of the liquid as possible. Don't press too firmly or rub the stain, as this could spread it further.
Create a mixture of one tablespoon of white vinegar and two tablespoons of water. Apply this paste to the stain using a cotton swab. Allow the paste to sit on stain for at least fifteen minutes so that it will have time to break down the stain.
Fill a basin with cold water and place your shoes inside. Swish them around until wine stain is saturated with water. Next, add a mild detergent (a teaspoon should do) and continue to swish shoes around until suds form. Do not use hot water, as it may set the stain.
Using a soft bristled brush, gently scrub the stain. Be careful not to scrub too hard, as this could cause damage to the material. Keep in mind, some materials, such as suede and leather, may require additional cleaning methods.
Rinse your shoes with cold water to remove any remaining detergent. Make sure all of the soap residue has been removed before moving on to the next step.
Allow your shoes to air dry in a cool, well-ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight, as this could fade the color of your shoes. Once dry, brush the material to restore its original texture.
