What You'll Need:

  • Club soda
  • White vinegar
  • Dish soap
  • Salt
  • Stain removal spray
  • Laundry detergent

Step 1: Blot the Stain

The first step to cleaning the stain is to blot it with a clean white cloth or paper towel. Apply pressure to the cloth as you move it around in a circular motion to absorb as much of wine as possible. Do not rub the fabric in one direction as this may cause the stain to spread.

Step 2: Soak the Stain Overnight

Mix equal parts club soda, white vinegar, and dish soap and fill a container with the solution. Submerge the stained portion of the fabric in the solution and allow it to soak overnight. Make sure the solution completely covers the stain, and check the fabric occasionally throughout the night to see if the stain has been lightened.

Step 3: Pretreat Stain

In a separate bowl, mix together a tablespoon of salt with a cup of warm water. Use a sponge and gently dab the mixture onto the remaining stain. Allow the solution to sit for 5-10 minutes before rinsing it off and allowing the fabric to dry.

Step 4: Apply Stain Remover

Spray a stain remover directly onto the stained area and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then, rinse the fabric with cold water and allow it to air dry.

Step 5: Wash the Clothing

Finally, place the clothing in the washing machine with a generous amount of laundry detergent. Set the water temperature to cold or lukewarm and select a gentle cycle. When the cycle is finished, hang the clothing to finish drying.
