The combination of water, white vinegar and salt is perfectly safe for most fabrics and materials. To use this method, create a mixture of 1 part white vinegar with 2 parts water and add 1 teaspoon of salt. Next, pour the mixture onto the stain and rub gently in a circular motion before washing as usual.
This method works on synthetic fabrics such as nylon, polyester and acrylic. Mix equal parts white vinegar and baking soda together and apply it to the red wine stain. Wait 10-15 minutes and then rinse off with cold water. The stain should come out, but if it remains, put the item in the washer.
Mix a small amount of dishwashing detergent, preferably with a color-safe bleach, with cold water and dab the mixture onto the stain. Gently rub the stain until it breaks down. Rinse off with cold water and repeat if necessary. This method should be used on whites or light colors only.
If the stain persists, try using rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. Soak a cotton ball in either solution and lightly dab the stain until it dissolves. Rinse off with cold water and wash your maxi dress as usual.
Another option is to use a blood stain remover like Zout or OxiClean. Follow the instructions on package for best results. Be sure to spot-test first, as these products are not safe for all fabrics.
Accidentally spilling red wine on your maxi dress at a special event can be a nightmare. But with the right knowledge and supplies, you can easily remove the stain. Try one of these methods and your dress will be as good as new!
