Removing Red Wine Stains from Denim
The first step when dealing with a red wine stain on your jeans is to act quickly. The sooner you address stain, the more likely you'll be able to remove it entirely. Once you're ready to start, proceed as follows:
- Lay the item of clothing flat and if possible, dab up any excess liquid from the stained area with a paper towel or cloth.
- If the stain is still wet, tightly fold a clean cloth over the stain, place a heavy weight on top, and allow cloth to absorb the remaining liquid.
- Prepare a solution of water and OxyClean or a similar product. You want the concentration to be strong enough to get rid of the stain, but not so strong that it damages the fabric.
- Soak the stained area of the garment in this solution for 15-30 minutes.
- Rinse with water. If the stain remains, repeat step 4.
- Once stain is gone, launder garment as usual.
Removing White Wine Stains from Denim
Upon seeing a white wine stain, the first impulse might be to reach for the bleach. However, bleaching could only make matters worse. Instead, use the trusty dishwashing detergent method:
- Using a absorbent cloth, blot the white wine stain with club soda, if available. This will help dilute the stain.
- Mix a teaspoon of dishwashing detergent with a cup of cold water.
- Dip a cloth in the mixture and blot the stain with it. Repeat until stain is gone.
- Rinse the area and allow to air dry.
- Launder the garment as usual.
