Lace garments can be instantly ruined by a drop of red wine or other beverages. Fortunately, you can save garment if you respond quickly and correctly. Read on to find out the best way to remove unwanted wine stains from your delicate fabrics.

What You’ll Need:

  • Dishwashing liquid
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Soft white cloth

Step 1: Check for Color Fastness

Before you get started, it's important to make sure the lace material is color fast. Take a clean white cloth and dab the stain with it. If any of the color from the fabric transfers onto the cloth, the lace is not colorfast and you should discontinue trying to clean it.

Step 2: Scrape Excess Wine

Take a spoon or butter knife and gently scrape away any excess bits of wine or debris from the lace that you can. This will help you to avoid spreading the stain. Be sure to scrape in the same direction as the lace pattern, if possible.

Step 3: Pre-Treat the Stain

Mix equal parts dishwashing liquid and white vinegar in a bowl. Dip a soft white cloth into the solution and wring it out so it is damp but not overly wet. Gently dab the cloth onto the stained area and apply light pressure. Work in a circular motion and pay close attention to the stain, removing any excess solution as you go.

Step 4: Rinse with Cold Water

Once you have pre-treated the affected area, rinse the area under cold running water. This will help to remove any remaining solution, as well as any residual wine stains.

Step 5: Use Baking Soda Paste to Remove Stubborn Stains

For any harder-to-remove stains, mix three parts baking soda to one part cold water to form a paste. Gently dab paste onto stained area, being careful not to spread the stain. Leave the paste on the stain for 10-15 minutes, then rinse with cold water.

Step 6: Dry Lace Garment

After using the above steps, the wine stain should be removed from the lace fabric. To ensure there are no remaining stains, air dry the lace garment in indirect sunlight. If there is any evidence of a remaining stain, you can repeat Steps 2-5 until the stain is completely gone.

Conclusion

With the right technique, removing wine stains from lace can be quick and easy. With a few simple steps, you can restore your lace garments back to their original glory. Now that you know how to clean wine stains from lace, you can keep your favorite garments looking pristine.
