Step One: Blot Stain

Using a clean cloth or sponge, quickly blot the area of the stain. Don't rub it in – this will only spread the stain further. You want to absorb as much of the wine as possible using blotting motions.

Step Two: Dissolve in Cold Water

Fill a container with cold water, then dissolve a teaspoon of mild laundry detergent in it. Place the stain in water for up to 10 minutes so that the water can penetrate the fibers of the fabric.

Step Three: Rinse the Stain

Place the material under running cold water and gently move your hands over stain to loosen any remaining particles. Rinse until all remnants of the detergent are gone.

Step Four: Dry Thoroughly

Lay a towel flat on a hard surface and place the kimono over it. Gently press on stained area with the towel to absorb excess moisture. Don’t hang kimono or put it in the dryer until you’re sure all of the wine stain is gone. If it remains, repeat these steps until you’re satisfied with the results.
