The most important part of removing a wine stain is not to rub it. Instead, use a clean cloth, towel or even a paper napkin to gently blot the stain. You should dab entire surface of the stained area and keep the fabric moving around so that the liquid is drawn up from the textile. Remember to change the cloth regularly to avoid making the stain bigger.
Once the surface of the stain is blotted, it's time to dilute it. Put some cold water in a bowl and mix it with powdered laundry detergent. Then, use a sponge to apply mixture to the stained area. Do this for about 10 - 15 minutes and then rinse the area with cold water.
For tougher wine stains, you can try using some white vinegar or lemon juice. Using a spray bottle, spray the affected area with either one and leave it to rest for a few minutes. Then rinse with cold water. For another option, you can fill two containers with white vinegar and lemon juice and mix them together. Then use a sponge to scrub the solution into the stained area and let it sit for 30 minutes.
After completing the steps above, it's time to wash the jacket. Read the label to make sure gentle detergents are used and that the jacket is washed on a cool setting. If you can, hang the jacket outside to air dry. If the stain remains, repeat the steps until it is gone.
With these simple steps, you can get rid of any wine stain and restore your favorite jacket to its former glory. Remember that sooner you tackle the stain, the easier it is to get rid of. So if you ever face an unfortunate spill, be sure to act fast!
