It is important to act quickly when dealing with any kind of stain, especially wine. Once the stain occurs, take a clean cloth or paper towel and dab it onto the area to absorb as much of the liquid as possible. Do not rub the area; this could cause the stain to spread and make it even harder to remove.
Using a mild soap and warm water, gently scrub the stained area. This will loosen up the stain and make it easier to remove. After scrubbing, rinse the area with cold water and pat it dry with a clean cloth.
There are many stain removers available in the market specifically designed for removing stubborn stains such as wine. Many stores that sell apparel also carry these products. Follow the instructions on the package for best results.
If the stain still remains, try rinsing the area with either white vinegar or lemon juice. Both substances can help break down the stain, forcing it out of the fabric. Rub the vinegar or lemon juice into the fabric and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing it with cold water.
Once the stain is gone, wash the garment as you normally would. To be sure the stain is completely removed, run a second cycle in cold water. Once the washing is done, check garment to make sure stain is no longer visible.
