The first step to removing a wine stain from your formalwear is to blot the area with a clean cloth or paper towel. Blot the stained area, doing your best to absorb as much of the liquid as possible. Do not rub the stain, as this may cause it to spread or to become set in the fabric.
Once you have blotted up as much of stain as possible, you will want to pre-treat the area with a stain remover. Be sure to read the instructions carefully and use the correct dose for your type of fabric and size of the stain. For best results, allow stain remover to sit for several minutes before proceeding.
Once you have pre-treated the stain, you can wash your item according to the care instructions on label. If stain persists, you may want to repeat the pre-treating process before washing again. You can also try using a laundry detergent specifically formulated for tough stains.
After washing, you should dry your garment according to the care instructions on the label. Avoid heat drying if possible, as this may cause the stain to become set in the fabric. If the stain has not been fully removed, you may want to repeat the previously mentioned steps before rewashing.
If the stain remains after multiple attempts, you may want to take your garment to a professional cleaner. A professional cleaner will be able to assess the stain and determine the best way to remove it. Be sure to alert them to presence of the stain so that they can provide the appropriate treatment.
Wine stains don’t have to be permanent on your formalwear. By following these steps, you should be able to make sure your garment looks good as new:
