As soon as you notice a wine stain on your flannel garment, take immediate action! Use a cloth or paper towel to blot the wine stain. Do not rub the area, as this can further set the stain. Repeat the blotting process until no more wine is transferred to cloth.
Create a solution of three parts cold water and one part white vinegar and use a clean cloth to soak the stained area. Let it sit for 15 minutes and then rinse with cold water. Next, lay fabric flat and let it air dry completely.
Once the area has dried, you can pre-treat the stained area with a commercial cleaner specifically designed to eradicate tough stains. Use the product according to the instructions on the label, and allow it to remain on the fabric for the amount of time noted on the bottle.
Next, put the fabric in the washing machine on the highest heat allowed (check the care label). Add a scoop of an enzyme-based laundry detergent and half a cup of baking soda. Run through a full cycle and then hang the garment to air dry.
When the garment is dry, check to make sure the wine stain is completely gone. If not, repeat a few of the steps above until the stain is removed completely.
Wine stains on flannel fabric don't have to be permanent. With a few simple steps, you can have your flannel looking like new again. To prevent wine stains from sticking to your fabrics in the future, remember to blot the stain immediately and wash it with cold water. Follow these tips and your flannel garments will remain pristine and look good as new!
