The supplies you will need for cleaning the red wine stain depend on what type of fabric your duchesse lace is made from; either cotton or synthetic materials. You will need:
Once you have gathered your supplies, start by pre-treating the stain with borax powder. Sprinkle some borax powder over the wine stain. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes before brushing away with a toothbrush. The borax powder will help to loosen the stain, making it easier to remove.
Once you have removed as much of borax powder as possible, soak the stained area in a mixture of white vinegar and warm water. This mixture should be a 50/50 solution. Let the lace soak for 20-30 minutes, then rinse out with water.
If the stain still remains, you can then try cleaning the area with a few drops of laundry detergent. Use a clean white cloth to apply the detergent to the stained area, using circular motions. Do not scrub too hard, as this could damage fabric.
Once you have finished cleaning the stained area, rinse it once more with warm water. Then hang the lace up to dry. Avoid placing the lace in direct sunlight, as this may cause fading.
With the right cleaning tools and technique, you can remove red wine stains from your beloved duchesse lace, without damaging the fabric. While it may take a bit of time and patience, you will be relieved to have your beloved lace back looking like new!
