Cotton piqué is not only known for its unique texture, but also for its capability of absorbing liquids. And while this quality makes the fabric soft and supple, it can also make it difficult to remove those pesky wine stains. However, with the right methods, one can clean the fabric of these tough stains.
The first step is to soak the stained area in cool water for 15 minutes as soon after the spill as possible. This helps to prevent the stain from setting into the fabric. If needed, you can use a soft brush for pre-treating area before soaking.
Mix a solution of ¼ teaspoon of dishwashing detergent, ½ teaspoon of white vinegar, 2 tablespoon of baking soda and a cup of warm water. Apply the solution to the stained area, let it sit for a few minutes, and then gently agitate the fabric using soft brush strokes.
Rinse the garment under cool running water, and then launder it according to the care instructions provided on the label. You may choose to use warm or cold water, depending upon type of fabric. In both cases, it is recommended to add a ½ cup of oxygen-based bleach to boost the washing results.
Following these steps should help you get rid of those tough wine stains from cotton piqué. Be sure to check for any remaining stain and repeat the process, if necessary.
