Using a pre-treatment will make it easier to get rid of the wine stain. Start by applying a little OxiClean Stain Remover directly to the stain. Rub it in gently, then let it sit for at least 10 minutes.
Fill a bucket or basin with cold water, then add a few tablespoons of laundry detergent and a cup of white vinegar. Place shirt into the mixture and let it soak for 1 hour.
Run hot water over stained area and add a few drops of laundry detergent. Lather the detergent over the stain and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing it off. Repeat this step until the stain is gone.
Once stain is gone, rinse shirt with cold water to ensure all traces of the detergent and vinegar are removed.
When the stain has been completely removed, wash shirt in hot water with color-safe bleach to prevent the stain from returning. Be sure to follow the instructions on the bleach bottle.
After washing the shirt in hot water, wash it again in cold water to remove any traces of color-safe bleach that may remain.
Finally, hang the shirt up to air dry. Do not place the shirt in the dryer, as the heat may cause the stain to set permanently.
With a bit of patience and the right cleaning techniques, you can get the wine stains out of your cotton oxford shirt. Just remember to take your time, be gentle, and always follow the instructions on the detergent and bleach bottles.
