Pre-Cleaning Treatments

The first step to removing a wine stain from a brief is to identify the fabric. If the brief is made from cotton or a natural fabric, you can immediately proceed to the cleaning process. However, if the brief is made from synthetic materials such as polyester or nylon, then you must start by pretreating the wine stain before moving on to cleaning it.

To do this, mix together some cold water, dish soap, and white vinegar and gently dab the mixture onto the stained area. Allow it to sit for a few minutes before proceeding to the next step.

Cleaning the Stain

Fill a sink or bucket with lukewarm water, add a few tablespoons of laundry detergent, and submerge the stained briefs in the solution. Let them soak for at least thirty minutes, swishing them gently every now and then.

After the soaking time, take the briefs out and gently scrub the stained area with a soft brush. Once done, rinse the briefs in cold water and lay them flat on a towel to dry.

Using Bleach

If the aforementioned methods don't work, you can try to use bleach on wine stain. Mix together one part bleach and four parts water and apply it to affected area. Leave it on the brief for thirty minutes, then rinse with cold water.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that bleach can discolor fabrics if used in excess, so it’s best to use this method as a last resort.
