Alpaca fabric can be expensive, so if you’ve accidentally spilled some red wine on it, you no doubt feel like you’ve made a costly mistake. Luckily, there are some simple steps you can take to remove the stain.

What You'll Need

  • A clean cloth
  • Mild laundry detergent
  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Hydrogen peroxide

Instructions

  1. First, get rid of as much of the excess liquid as possible. Use a clean cloth to blot (not rub) at the spot until the fabric is no longer saturated.
  2. Create a cleaning solution by adding a teaspoon of mild laundry detergent and a teaspoon of white vinegar to one quart of lukewarm water. Mix the solution until it becomes sudsy.
  3. Soak an absorbent cloth in the solution and dab at the stain until it begins to fade.
  4. If the stain still won’t come out, add a teaspoon of baking soda to the mix. Let solution sit for 15 minutes before dabbing at the stain again.
  5. For tough stains, make a paste by mixing equal parts hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Apply paste to the stain and let it sit for 15 minutes. Then, rinse off paste with cold water.
  6. Once the stain has disappeared, rinse area with cold water. Rinse until all of the soap is gone.
