Things You'll Need

  • White vinegar or commercial fabric cleaner or stain remover
  • Water
  • Bucket
  • Soft bristle brush
  • Sponge
  • Clean cloth

Step 1: Make a Cleaning Solution

Mix white vinegar with water in equal parts in a bucket. Alternatively, use a commercial fabric cleaner or stain remover for delicate fabrics such as shantung.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Stain

Apply cleaning solution to the stained area and let it sit for 15 minutes. Be sure not to over saturate the fabric.

Step 3: Scrub the Stain

Use a soft bristle brush to scrub the stained area gently. Do not put too much pressure when scrubbing.

Step 4: Rinse the Fabric

Rinse fabric with clean, warm water using a sponge or clean cloth.

Step 5: Dry the Fabric

Hang the fabric up to air dry. Do not place fabric in the dryer or you will set the stain.

Step 6: Repeat if Necessary

If the stain is still present, repeat the above steps. Once the stain has been removed, treat the fabric with a fabric protector for future protection.
