It can be a pain when a favourite jacket gets stained from wildflowers. There is no need to worry though, there are simple steps to take for getting the stain out.
Things You Will Need
- A small bowl or bucket
- A mild detergent
- A soft cloth
- A toothbrush or scrub brush
- A sponge (optional)
Steps to Cleaning
- Start by filling the bowl or bucket with cold water. Make sure it is cold because warm or hot water can make stain worse.
- Add a few drops of mild detergent to the water. Gently stir mixture together to help detergent dissolve and create suds.
- Dip a clean cloth in the soapy water. Wring it out so that it is not dripping, but still damp.
- Gently dab stain with the cloth and work in a circular pattern.
- Rinse the jacket with cold water and clean cloth.
- If the stain is still visible, take a toothbrush or scrub brush and apply more detergent directly to the stain. Scrub in a circular motion and rinse with cold water.
- If stain is still present, repeat step 6, or let the detergent sit on the stain for 15 minutes, then rinse.
- If the stain is still present, try using a sponge with a little bit of rubbing alcohol. Scrub, rinse and repeat if necessary.
Tips for Preventing Wildflower Stains
- If you are planning to be in an area with wildflowers, wear something other than your favorite jacket.
- If you don't want to avoid wildflowers completely, try wearing a poncho or other clothing that covers your clothing.
- Bring some wet wipes with you. If your clothes get stained, use the wipes to at least prevent the stain from setting.
- If you get a wildflower stain on your clothes, act quickly! The sooner you clean the stain, better the chances of removing it.
