Start by using a clean, dry rag or paper towel to blot the stain. Try to blot as much of liquid or debris as possible. Do not rub or scrub the stain, as this can set it further into fibers of the gingham fabric.
Mix 1 teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar in 1 quart of warm water. Dip a clean cloth in the mixture and dab the stain until saturated. To avoid spreading the stain, start at the outside of the stain and work your way inwards.
If the stain isn’t lifting with the detergent and vinegar mixture, try applying full-strength bleach directly onto the stain. Let the bleach sit for 15 minutes before rinsing. Make sure to follow the directions on bleach label for proper dilution and application.
Once you’ve finished pretreating or bleaching the stain, launder the gingham fabric according to the instructions on care label. Once the fabric is dry, inspect the stained area to check if the stain has been lifted. If not, repeat above steps until the stain is gone.
