Stain-Be-Gone: How to Clean Wildflower Stains on Your Formalwear

Whether it's baby's breath at a wedding or a field of daisies at a fancy picnic, wildflowers can quickly turn any event into an unforgettable one – but their beauty comes with a price. Wildflowers, especially the pollen-filled varieties, can leave behind stubborn stains that seem impossible to remove. Fortunately, with a few simple steps, you can keep your formalwear looking as perfect as the big day itself.

Step 1: Act Fast!

The best thing you can do when faced with a wildflower stain is to act quickly. Blot the area with a clean, white cloth to absorb as much of the liquid or debris as possible before it has a chance to set in. Take care to avoid rubbing the fabric, which can worsen the stain.

Step 2: Pre-treat Area

Once the excess liquid has been absorbed, pre-treat the area with a liquid laundry detergent, dishwashing detergent, or a few drops of liquid oxygen bleach. Rub the detergent into the fabric working in a circular motion, then allow the area to sit for 15-30 minutes. Then, rinse the pre-treated area with cold water.

Step 3: Machine Wash the Garment

Next, throw the garment into the washing machine with a color-safe detergent. If the stain is particularly stubborn, add 1/4 cup of white vinegar to the wash cycle to help loosen the wildflower stains. Wash the garment in cold water, then hang it to dry in the sun or tumble dry on low heat.

Step 4: Repeat if Necessary

If the stain persists after the first cycle, repeat Steps 2 and 3 as necessary. Be patient, as it may take several cycles of washing before stain is completely removed.
