1. Pre-Treat with Stain Remover

To start, apply a stain remover to affected area. Be sure to test it first on an inconspicuous area of your denim, like an inside seam, for colorfastness. Allow the solution to soak for ten minutes before washing.

2. Pre-Soak in Laundry Detergent

Once you've pre-treated with a stain remover, get ready to pre-soak the item in laundry detergent. Dissolve one teaspoon of laundry detergent in two quarts of warm or hot water. Then, submerge item completely and wait 10 minutes before rinsing. This will help break down any remaining tough stains.

3. Wash in the Machine

Once you’ve pre-treated and pre-soaked, you can wash the denim in your washing machine. Make sure to select delicate cycle and use cool water. As for detergent, choose a mild, enzyme-based formula. For added spot removal power, add one cup of white vinegar to your wash cycle.

4. Air Dry

To avoid any damage from the dryer, air dry your item by laying it flat or hanging it up with clothespins. You should also try to avoid direct sun exposure.

5. Check for Residue Stains

Finally, check for any residual stains. If necessary, use a homemade stain remover solution — one tablespoon of dish soap, one tablespoon of white vinegar, and two cups of warm water — and gently dab affected area. To finish, air dry the item once again.
