Step One: Blot Right Away

The first thing you should do if you’ve spilled white wine on your underwear is to blot the stain with a clean, white cloth or paper towel immediately after the spill. Don’t rub or scrub the stain, as this will only set it and make it harder to remove. By blotting area, you can absorb some of wine and keep it from seeping into fabric.

Step Two: Add Detergent to Stain

Gently rub a bit of laundry detergent into the stain on your underwear. Work the detergent in a circle, making sure to get into fabric as much as possible. Once the detergent is fully worked into the stain, let it sit for up to 10 minutes before you move on to the next step.

Step Three: Rinse in Cold Water

Rinse the stained area of the underwear in cold water. Use circular motions to further work the detergent into the fabric, and make sure you rinse away all the remaining detergent. Do not use hot water, as this can set the stain and make it nearly impossible to remove.

Step Four: Apply a Stain Remover

Once the detergent has been thoroughly rinsed away, use a pre-treatment stain remover. Work the stain remover into the fabric using gentle rubbing motions, and then let it sit for about 15 minutes. This will help to break down stain and help you get the wine out of the fabric.

Step Five: Wash the Garment

Once the stain remover has done its job, wash the garment on the machine’s delicate cycle in cold water. Make sure to add the stain remover again during the wash cycle, as this will help to make sure stain is removed. Repeat the cycle if necessary.

Step Six: Hang to Dry

When the garment is done washing, hang it up to dry. Do not put it in the dryer, as this could cause the stain to set and be almost impossible to remove. Allow the garment to air dry, and then check to see if the stain is gone. If it’s not totally gone, repeat the cycle until stain is no more.
