Gather Your Supplies

To effectively tackle white wine stains, you’ll need the following supplies:

  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Old toothbrush
  • Clean cloths

Step 1: Blot the Stain

Immediately after realizing stain is present, take a dry cloth and blot the fabric as much as possible. This will remove some of the excess liquid, making the next steps less difficult.

Step 2: Make a Paste With Baking Soda and Water

In a small bowl mix together baking soda and water until it forms a paste. Once mixed thoroughly, take an old toothbrush and apply the paste directly to the stain.

Step 3: Rub the Paste Into Stain

Using the toothbrush, rub paste into fabric. This will help loosen wine from the fibers of the fabric.

Step 4: Rinse the Paste

Using cold water, rinse the paste away. Carefully use your hands to feel for any remaining paste.

Step 5: Pre-Treat With White Vinegar

Create a pre-treatment solution with white vinegar and cold water. Mix one part vinegar to three parts water in a bowl, and then apply this mixture directly to the stain. Allow the solution to sit on the fabric for at least 10 minutes.

Step 6: Soak in Hydrogen Peroxide

Pour some hydrogen peroxide over the stain, and then let it sit for about 30 minutes. This will help break down the remaining particles and lighten the stain.

Step 7: Launder as Usual

If all goes according to plan, the stain should now be mostly gone. Once you turn the fabric inside out, you can wash it in cold water in the washing machine.
