As soon as you’ve noticed the stain, use a clean white cloth to blot it right away. Do not rub stain as this will spread the wine further into fabric and make the stain harder to remove.
Mix one tablespoon of white vinegar with two cups of cold water and pour it onto the stain. If there is no vinegar on hand, club soda can also be used. Let the mixture sit on the stain for about five minutes.
Add a drop of mild detergent or liquid dish soap to the stain and mix it in with the white vinegar or club soda. Again, allow the mixture to sit for about five minutes.
Rinse stain with cold water and repeat Steps 1-3 if necessary. Make sure to check the progress of the stain after each step.
Fill a bowl or bucket with a mixture of two gallons of cool water and one teaspoon of detergent that contains enzymes, such as a dishwashing detergent. Let the stained area soak in the mixture for 30 minutes.
Wash sweatpants according to the manufacturer’s care instructions. You may need to repeat Steps 1-5 to fully remove the stain, especially if the stain is stubborn.
Dry your sweatpants in dryer and inspect them before wearing. The stain should be gone!
