Step 1: Blot the stain

As soon as you notice a white wine stain, immediately grab a clean cloth and blot the excess liquid as best you can. Continue blotting until you have removed as much liquid as possible from the suede surface.

Step 2: Mix a cleaning solution

In a small bowl or dish, mix together equal parts white vinegar and warm water. You may need to use a little more or less depending on the size of the stain. Stir the mixture until it's completely combined.

Step 3: Apply the cleaning solution

Using a soft cloth or paper towel, apply vinegar-water solution to stained area. Gently blot the stain until it begins to fade. Do not scrub stain hard as this may damage the suede.

Step 4: Rinse with warm water

Once the stain is no longer visible, rinse the area with warm water and a clean cloth. Make sure to continue blotting until all of the cleaning solution is removed.

Step 5: Let air dry

Once you have removed all of the cleaning solution, lay the item flat somewhere safe and let it air dry. Do not place it directly in the sun or near a heater as extreme temperatures may damage suede.

Final Tips

  • If your suede item is especially delicate, test cleaning solution in an inconspicuous spot before applying it to the stain. This will ensure that it won't cause any further damage.
  • Always use a soft cloth when cleaning the suede. Rough materials can scratch, discolor, or damage fabric.
  • If the stain persists, consider taking the item to a professional cleaner.
