If you’ve just spilled white wine on your pumps, take action immediately. Blot the stain with a towel or paper towels and then let it air dry. For stubborn stains, use a cloth dampened with cold water to gently remove the remaining residue. If fabric is light colored, you can use a mixture of 3 parts water to 1 part white vinegar. Gently dab the stain until it is gone.
For dried white wine stains on your pumps, you will need to use a bit of extra elbow grease. Start by mixing 1 teaspoon of liquid dish detergent with 2 cups of warm water. Dip a clean cloth into the solution, wring it out, and then dab stain. Work from the outside edges inward and be sure to change the cloth often as it absorbs the stain. Rinse the area with warm water when finished and allow the pumps to air dry.
If the above solutions don’t do the trick, there are a few other things you can try. Rubbing alcohol or vodka can be used to remove white wine stains from your pumps. Simply pour a small amount onto the stain and use a clean cloth to rub away residue. You can also sprinkle a bit of baking soda onto the stain and gently scrub with a damp cloth. The gently abrasive nature of baking soda should help remove the stain.
The best way to deal with white wine stains is to prevent them in the first place! The next time you’re enjoying a glass of wine, remember to keep your pumps out of harm’s way. If you’re at a restaurant or party, ask for a stopper to put over your glass so it won’t tip over.
