White wine can be enjoyed without worrying about staining the tablecloth or other fabric surfaces, but not your pots and pans. White wine contains tannins like red wine and when it is allowed to dry on a surface, it can cause permanent discoloration. The key is to clean it up immediately before stain sets in.

What You Need

  • A sponge or kitchen scrubber
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Dish soap

Step 1: Wipe Up the Stain Immediately

If the pot or pan is still warm, use a kitchen scrubber to quickly scrub away as much of the stain as possible. If the pot or pan is cool, you can use a sponge to blot up the stain.

Step 2: Make a Vinegar and Baking Soda Paste

Mix equal parts of white vinegar and baking soda to make a paste. Spread paste on the stained area and let it sit for about 15 minutes.

Step 3: Scrub the Stain

After the paste dries, use a sponge or kitchen scrubber to scrub off baked-on stain. Be sure to scrub in a circular motion.

Step 4: Rinse with Soapy Water

After the stain has been removed, rinse pan with soapy water. Dry the pot or pan with a clean, lint-free cloth.
