When it comes to treating white wine stains on muslin, the key is to act fast. The longer you leave the stain untreated, the harder it will be to work with. Here’s what you need to do to get stain out quickly and easily:

Gather Your Supplies

  • White vinegar
  • Dish soap
  • Laundry detergent
  • Clean sponge
  • Bucket

Step One: Blot the Stain

Take a clean, white cloth and press down gently on stain. Do not rub stain as this can spread it further and make it harder to remove. Continue blotting until no more of the wine can be seen on cloth.

Step Two: Pre-Treat the Stain

Once the excess wine has been removed, it’s time to apply a pre-treatment. To do this, mix a solution of one part white vinegar and two parts water in a bucket. Dip a clean white sponge into the solution, then gently dab the stained area. Allow the pre-treatment to sit on the fabric for at least five minutes.

Step Three: Wash the Stain

Once the pre-treatment solution has had enough time to sit, it’s time to launder your fabric. Start by adding one tablespoon of dish soap and one tablespoon of laundry detergent to a bucket of warm water. Swish the solution to mix it thoroughly, then place the fabric into the mixture and allow it to soak for about 15 minutes.

Once the fabric has finished soaking, remove it from solution and rinse it with cold water. Lay the fabric flat on a towel to air dry.

Step Four: Inspect the Stain

Once fabric has dried completely, inspect the area for any lingering stains. If any stains remain, repeat steps two and three until stain is fully removed.
