The most important step to eliminate a white wine stain from your midi dress is to blot it up immediately. Use a paper towel or an absorbent cloth to remove as much of liquid as possible. Don’t rub. Rubbing will only spread the stain over a larger area.
After blotting, run cold water over the spot to further dilute the wine. Again, don’t rub as it may spread the stain.
Soak your midi dress in a mixture of 1 tablespoon detergent and 1 quart cold water. Let the dress sit for 15-30 minutes before washing. This will help the stain break apart and prevent it from setting deeper into the fabric.
Once the stain has been soaked in the detergent solution, put your dress into the washing machine and wash on a gentle cycle. Be sure to use cold water only and don’t add any bleach or fabric softener.
Before putting the dress in the dryer, check to see if the stain has been removed. If the stain is still present, repeat steps 2-4 until it is gone.
Once all the stains are gone, air dry your midi dress to prevent any shrinkage. Do not put it in the dryer.
