Merino wool is a luxurious, yet delicate fabric with unique fibers that must be treated with the utmost care. If you’ve had the misfortune of spilling white wine on your beautiful merino clothing or accessories, worry not – we have helpful guide you need to effectively remove the telltale stains.

What You'll Need:

  • Cold water
  • White vinegar
  • Salt
  • Borax
  • Cotton cloths

Instructions:

  1. As soon as the accident happens, soak the article in cold water.
  2. Once it has soaked for at least fifteen to twenty minutes, rinse it in cold water.
  3. Create a solution of 2 parts vinegar and 1 part water, and apply it directly to the stains.
  4. Let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing it off in cold water again.
  5. Mix 3 tablespoons of salt with 1 teaspoon of borax and add it to a quart of cold water. Place your article in the mixture and let it soak for at least an hour.
  6. Rinse it off in cold water, and repeat Steps 4 and 5 until the stains are gone.
  7. To dry, lay flat on a clean surface, preferably made of cotton.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Use very cold water throughout the process; warm and hot water can set the stain and make it permanent.
  • Avoid using chemical-based cleaners, especially those containing bleach or harsh detergents – these can damage the merino's delicate fibers, making them prone to breakage and premature wear.
  • Take the extra precaution of having a clean cotton cloth or towel underneath article, so stain won't transfer to other surfaces.
  • Lay the item flat to dry, as hanging it can cause it to stretch and shrink.
