No matter how careful you are, accidents can still happen. Your favorite pair of Keds are particularly vulnerable when it comes to spills, especially for those of us who like to enjoy a glass of white wine with dinner. But don't throw away your shoes just yet; with a few simple steps and materials, that white wine stain doesn't have to be a permanent addition.

What You'll Need:

  • White vinegar
  • Paper towels
  • Clean cloth

Step 1: Blot the Stain Immediately

As soon as the stain appears, use some paper towels to blot up as much of the liquid as possible. Don't rub or scrub the stain, as this can push the residue further into the fabric and make it harder to get out.

Step 2: Spray Stain with Vinegar

Mix a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle, and lightly spray stain with the mixture. Allow the vinegar to sit for a few minutes so that it can break down the stain.

Step 3: Soak with Vinegar Solution and Water

Create a larger solution of equal parts vinegar and water in a container big enough for the Keds. Soak the shoes in the mixture for about 30 minutes.

Step 4: Rinse with Cold Water

Once the stain has been soaking for 30 minutes, remove shoes from the vinegar solution and rinse them off with cold water. This will help to remove any remaining remnants of the stain.

Step 5: Dry with a Clean Cloth

Pat the Keds dry with a clean cloth and then allow them to air dry completely. Once they're dry, they should be good as new!
