White wine stains on clothing can be tricky, because many common laundry detergents are not specifically formulated to remove them. However, there are a few steps you can take to help get rid of the blotch.
The first thing to do when tackling a white wine stain is to act quickly! If the spill has just happened, gently blot the area with a clean cotton towel or cloth to absorb as much liquid as possible. Be careful not to scrub too hard, as this could spread stain further.
If the stain is already dry, treat it with a few drops of mild, detergent-free liquid dish soap. Work soap into the spot lightly, using your fingers or a soft-bristled brush. Leave the soap on for a few minutes, then rinse with cool water.
If the stain persists, create a thick paste using a few tablespoons of baking soda and enough cold water to make a paste, and apply it to the stained area. Use a damp cloth to rub the paste into the stain for about two minutes, then rinse the area with cool water.
For particularly stubborn stains, you may wish to try treating the area with a white wine stain remover. These specially-formulated cleaners often work wonders, especially when used alongside other stain removal techniques.
Once the white wine stain is completely removed, launder your jumper as usual. This may include washing it in washing machine on a gentle cycle. If possible, use cold water and a specialized fabric-safe detergent meant for delicates. Throughly inspect your garment after the wash cycle is done to make sure the stain has been completely removed.
