The first step in removing a white wine stain is to apply a small amount of dish soap directly to the affected area. Rub the soap into the stained area with your fingers or a damp sponge. Let it sit for a few minutes before moving on to step two.
Once you have applied the dish soap to the stained area, rinse it off with cold water. Be sure to use cold water as hot water can cause stain to set more deeply into the fabric.
Take a clean, dry towel and blot the stained area vigorously until all the moisture has been absorbed from the fabric. Be sure to use a clean towel as one that may contain dirt or other debris can potentially set the stain further into fabric.
Look for a stain remover specifically designed for white wines and follow the instructions on the product label. Once the stain remover has been applied, wait a few minutes and then gently dab away excess liquid with a clean cloth. Finally, rinse the garment and see if the stain has been completely removed.
If the stain is still visible after step four, repeat the process from the beginning until it is no longer visible. Be sure to let the garment air dry after each attempt before applying the next step in the process.
Though it can be a hassle to remove white wine stains from clothing, the best solution is to avoid them in first place. If you’re hosting a party, be sure to provide plenty of napkins and set up a “no red wine” rule – it will save you a lot of trouble later!
